Mom Dating – Local Fun for Moms and Kids

Almost five years ago now, I left my full-time job and began my new career as a stay at home mom. Drastic doesn’t even begin to describe the change. I truly felt called to stay home with my baby, through prayer and reading we knew it was what was going to work best for our family. I knew of the ‘drudgery’, the ‘monotonous days’, the ‘thin wallets’ that was to come, but the one thing that really surprised me was the loneliness.

Instead of being surrounded by 40+ women all day long, talking to each other and to students (I worked at a University) I was met only with some fun little noises from my newborn. Wonderful of course, but less than stimulating some days. I had only one stay at home mom friend. I love my husband to death, but he’s less than chatty.

I craved friends as much as I craved good ice cream (a lot), but they were nowhere to be easily found! (thank you internet) It actually took me years to find a group of  mom friends that I could get together with.

Now that I’ve been in the “mom scene” for a while, I realize there is more out there for us than I have time for – so many new groups and activities to join.

Moms in Tow

I met Jenny last year just as she was launching Moms in Tow, a member based group for moms, expectant moms and women anticipating pregnancy a way to find great discounts, meet others for social events, and attend healthy and educational activities in West Michigan. Offering activities for both moms only as well as fun with kids, you get many chances to hang out with other moms for some fun!

West Michigan Events for Moms

Also – don’t forget to check out the event calendar here at NLM! There are plenty of groups listed from Le Leche Leagues, Natural Parenting Groups, and things to bring your kids to.

Jun 1 at the Java Gym!!

Next Wednesday, I’ll be grabbing my Perks card (getting 50% off admission) and heading to the brand new Java Gym with my little ones! Hopefully some of our other NLM contributors can make it as well, though with such a great discount for being a Perks program member, we plan on going back a couple more times in June. We’d love to see you there of course! I’m pretty bad about planning times per se, but I’ll be there around 10:00am for some fun before we head home for lunch.

{To join the Perks Program, you order a perks card from for just $21.95 and you receive great discounts at local businesses. Just for my kids, we’ll save $5.00 every time we go, paying just $5.00 to get in (admission is $3 for under 3, $7 for over 3) and easily making up for the cost of the Perks card in just a couple visits. And the JavaGym deal for 50% off admission is good every Tuesday and Wednesday in June! *NLM is an affiliate of}

West Michigan Link-Up

Natural Living Moms and Eat Local West Michigan will be hosting a weekly link-up every Thursday. So if you blog about local businesses, deals, etc, etc, please feel free to link up below!

*Linky closes one week from today. So if you have other posts coming up in your blog schedule you’d like to link, feel free!

But before you do, let’s cover the ground rules. Unfortunately link ups such as this are getting watered down with stagnant traffic. In order to make sure this doesn’t happen please make sure you:

  1. Link to a specific, recent post relevant to the West Michigan area. This can include things like reviews, general discussion, tips on buying locally, events, etc.
  2. Link not to your homepage, but directly to your post.
  3. Make sure to include a link to this post! Collaborating with bloggers is a two-way street, we’re showing links to your site, make sure you link to this post and let your readers know what it’s about. (or simply copy and paste this at the bottom of your post: What to find out more about what’s going on locally? This post is linked to the West Michigan Link-Up at Natural Living Moms, where you can see what everyone else is up to!)
  4. Please publish your post with the above mentioned link to NLM. So going back in every once in a while and adding it isn’t a major cause for concern, but y’all…….then the link to NLM never hits your subscribers.
  5. Not mandatory, but if you’re looking to help increase the traffic for us local bloggers, read the other posts and share then via social media and sites like stumble upon. That’s just good blog kharma that will come back ten fold. 🙂

Donielle is a natural momma of two, lover of real foods, and owner and editor of Grand Rapids Natural Living and Naturally Knocked Up. You can usually find her in the kitchen whipping up some nourishing foods, cuddled on the couch reading books to the littles, avoiding the laundry and Mt. Saint Dishes, or tapping away on the laptop. Her husband puts up with her sometimes crazy "hippie" ways, but loves her regardless. Welcome to my home away from home.
