Weekend Moments for Mom {4.23.11}

Cody's "No TV Day. Stop Watching TV" sign.

This week I’ve been so glad for “Screen-Free Week”, especially since the previous week and a half we had either sick kids or an extra little one in our home that I was watching. Lack of sleep for mom meant the t.v. was used even more than normal and both of my children were becoming rather difficult.

I decided to go completely t.v. free for the kids {though we may still have our family movie night tonight!}, but I allowed Cody to continue to have his 30 minutes of computer time {in which he does his ‘schoolwork games’, and 30 minutes of playing on the wii everyday but Wednesday {our regular media fast day}. After the first couple of days my children began spending hours upon hours coloring, pushing the little one around the room in a box, and reading with mom on the couch. My home is a pleasant place to be again and they find fun in almost everything. I hope you to were able to cut out t.v. this week and see similar outcomes!

The above is a sign Cody made, a little hard to read, but it says “No tv day. Stop watching tv”. Love that kid!

Here’s a few good reads I came across this week:

Have a blessed weekend as we remember our Savior’s ultimate sacrifice and celebrate that even death has no hold on Him!

About donielle

Donielle is a natural momma of two, lover of real foods, and owner and editor of Grand Rapids Natural Living and Naturally Knocked Up. You can usually find her in the kitchen whipping up some nourishing foods, cuddled on the couch reading books to the littles, avoiding the laundry and Mt. Saint Dishes, or tapping away on the laptop. Her husband puts up with her sometimes crazy "hippie" ways, but loves her regardless. Welcome to my home away from home.

  1. Donielle – I love the fact that you have a no-media day. That’s so wonderful – what a great idea for a family, well… for anyone. I may need to do something like that myself. (I got so wrapped up in my gardening/landscaping one year that I had to make myself spend “x” number of days without doing ANY gardening… to get things into better perspective. When good things become too important to us they become idols – I say this from personal experience.)

    Thanks for the great post and for reminding us of what an awesome Savior we serve.

  2. I love Cody’s sign 🙂 We did screen-free week and are continuing now. It went so much better than I expected and no more fighting about ‘just one more show!’ I think the no-media day is great also…

  3. I love the sign! 🙂
