Many Grand Rapids women choose to hire a doula to attend their births, in or out of the hospital. A doula helps give support, emotional, physical, and mental, during labor and often time acts as an advocate for the couple within a hospital setting. Hiring a doula has also been shown to increase the occurrence of having a natural birth.
I happen to know many of the local doulas and find being around them truly wonderful! They are knowledgable and passionate about what they do. The Grand Rapids area is a treasure trove of labor support.
